5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Positive results were documented from in vitro mutagenicity studies using microorganisms (DFGOT (1991)). However, there are no other adequate in vivo mutagenicity tests documented and no in vitro mutagenicity tests using mammalian cells available. Due to insufficient data available, the substance was classified into "Classification not possible". | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |

Bladder epithelium cancer was detected in 2 of 4 mixed breed dogs in 33-month oral route exposure studies. Based on this, the substance has been classified into A2 by SCGIH (1996) and Category 2 in the EU carcinogen classification. On the other hand, there is no report of carcinogenicity in humans, and according to the evaluation of IARC (1987), its classification is Group 3. For GHS classification, giving consideration to the latest evaluation by ACGIH (A2), the substance was classified into Category 1B. As relevant notes, 4-nitrobiphenyl is metabolized into 4-aminobiphenyl (IARC Group 1) in vivo. | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |
