In a test in which 0.1 mL of the test substance was applied to the eye of six rabbits (EPA 40CFR 798.4500, GLP), all animals showed slight to moderate irritation of the conjunctivae, and four had iridial and corneal changes including slight opacity of the corneal surface and corneal ulceration (USEPA/HPV (2001)). Because the above irritation signs disappeared in all the animals by seven days after the application (USEPA/HPV (2001)), it was classified in Category 2B. No effects related to administration of the test substance were observed on mortality, toxic signs, weight gain, food consumption, histological findings, neurobehavioral endpoints, sperm motility or morphology, or estrous cycle after 90-day inhalation exposure (6 hours/day, 5 days /week) to 400 mg/m3 in rats, treatment-related effects observed were primarily degeneration and atrophy of the olfactory mucosa in the nose in both males and females, and focal respiratory metaplasia of the olfactory mucosa was also found, although less commonly (USEPA/HPV (2001)). Based on the above results, it was classified in Category 2 (upper respiratory tract) because 400 mg/m3 corresponds to the guidance value range for Category 2.
