It was classified in Category 1B, since based on (1) and (2), this substance has been subject to the public announcement on guidelines in order to prevent the impairment of worker's health caused by the chemical substances decided by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare based on paragraph (3) of Article 28 of the Industrial Safety and Health Act, and based on (2), the evidence of carcinogenicity was presented in experimental animals. Besides, the category was changed according to the assessment by experts.

(1) This substance is a target substance in the public announcement on guidelines in order to prevent the impairment of worker's health caused by the chemical substances decided by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare based on paragraph (3) of Article 28 of the Industrial Safety and Health Act (guidelines in order to prevent the impairment of worker's health, announcement No. 27 on February 7, 2020).
(2) In a 2-year carcinogenicity study by inhalation exposure with mice, an increase in the incidence of bronchioloalveolar carcinoma in the lung was observed in males. In females, there was no increase in the incidence of tumors (Results from Carcinogenicity Studies (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, 2007)).

As for the experimental animals, in a 13-week inhalation toxicity test (6 hours/day, 5 days/week) with mice, eosinophilic change in the olfactory epithelium and basophilic change in the bronchioles at or above 31 ppm (converted guidance value: 0.12 mg/L), which is within the guidance value range for Category 1, eosinophilic change in the respiratory epithelium at or above 125 ppm (converted guidance value: 0.47 mg/L) which is within the guidance value range for Category 2, and anemia (decreases in red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, and hematocrit value), an increase in ALT (only 250 ppm), disarrangement in olfactory epithelium, hyperplasia and erosion of squamous epithelium in the forestomach, centrilobular necrosis, and enlargement of the nucleus in the hepatocytes were observed at or above 250 ppm (converted guidance value: 0.95 mg/L) (Results from Carcinogenicity Studies (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Access On May 2017)).
