Rationale for the classification Classification year (FY) GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Not classified
-
-
- - It was classified as "Not classified" based on a report of an LD50 value of > 9,500 mg/kg (OECD TG 401) for rats (SIDS (2011)). FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not classified (Not applicable)

-
- - Liquid (GHS definition) FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Category 4

Warning
H332 P304+P340
P261
P271
P312
It was classified in Category 4 based on a report on an LC50 value (6 hours) of > 7,605 ppm (converted 4-hour equivalent value: 9,314 ppm) (OECD TG 403) for rats (SIDS (2011)). Besides, because the value is lower than 90% of the saturated vapour pressure concentration (44,211 ppm), a reference value in the unit of ppm was applied as a vapour with little mist. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Not classified
-
-
- - It was classified as "Not classified" in the Classification JIS (Category 3 in UN GHS classification) because it is reported that there was slight irritation in a test in which this substance was applied to rabbits and a score was 0.66 (SIDS (2011)). FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 2B
-
Warning
H320 P305+P351+P338
P337+P313
P264
It was classified in Category 2B because it was assessed to be a slight irritant in an eye irritation test with rabbits (equivalent to OECD TG 405) (SIDS (2011)). FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data.
FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
4 Skin sensitization Not classified
-
-
- - In preparation. Check the Japanese version. FY2022 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2019 revised edition (Ver. 2.1))
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data. As for in vivo, it was negative in a micronucleus test with mouse bone marrow cells (SIDS (2011)). As for in vitro, it was negative in a bacterial reverse mutation test, and positive in a mouse lymphoma test and a chromosomal aberration test with cultured mammalian cells (SIDS (2011)). In SIDS (2011), there is no judgment on whether this substance is mutagenic. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, in a combined repeated dose toxicity study with the reproduction/developmental toxicity screening test (OECD TG422) with rats in the oral route, no effects on general toxicity, reproductive toxicity, and developmental toxicity were observed (SIDS (2011)). However, because it is a screening test, and there is no sufficient information on developmental toxicity, it was classified as "Classification not possible." FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 3 (Narcotic effects)

Warning
H336 P304+P340
P403+P233
P261
P271
P312
P405
P501
Because reversible depression and ataxia were observed after gavage administration to rats (SIDS (2011)), it was classified in Category 3 (narcotic effects). Furthermore, in inhalation exposure (42 mg/L) in rats, urinary bladder calculi, kidney foci, enlarged kidney, and abscessed prostate were found (SIDS (2011)), but these were not adopted as evidence for target organs because they were findings outside the guidance value range. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Category 2 (liver, thyroid)

Warning
H373 P260
P314
P501
It is described that in a combined repeated dose toxicity study with the reproduction/developmental toxicity screening test (OECD TG422) with rats by 28-day gavage administration, effects on the liver (weight increase (males and females), centrilobular hepatocellular hypertrophy, periportal vacuolation (females)) and thyroid follicular cell hyperplasia/hypertrophy (males and females) were observed at the dose (250 mg/kg/day: (converted guidance value: 77.8 mg/kg/day)) within the guidance value range for Category 2 (SIDS (2011)). Therefore, it was classified in Category 2 (liver, thyroid). Besides, in a 90-day inhalation test in which rats were exposed to the vapour of this substance, no effects were seen within the guidance value range, but effects on the urinary bladder (calculi, epithelial hyperplasia) were observed at the high concentration (2.2 mg/L) corresponding to "Not classified" (SIDS (2011)). FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible
-
-
- - Classification not possible due to lack of data. FY2013 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0))
