SpnJで修飾されたaglycone 3は、SpnMでのみ3環aglycone 8をもたらす。
この3環aglycone 8は、SpnF or SpnLと反応させても予測された4環aglycone 4を形成せず。

さらなる調査で、SpnFはSpnMによる3環aglycone 8形成を促進することが示された。
提唱されたSpnFが触媒するendo-mode syn-additionはDiels-Alder reactionと一致するが実証できてはいない。
