regulatory protein EncSとは異なって転写される。
抗生物質に対する抵抗性の決定因子は、このようなdivergent repressor-resistance gene pairsからなることが示されているものがいくつかある。これらのシステムでのように、2分子対称を持つ領域がencS and encTの間に存在し、これはたぶんrepressorのためのbinding siteとして機能する。

mctとmrdを一緒にE.coliで発現すると、抵抗性は150倍になる。
