PKS genes mtaE and mtaFはSAM-dependent methyltransferasesに相同性のあるdomainを含む。これらはO-methyltransferasesに似ている。
MtaFにはKR or DH domainがないため、beta-keto中間体のenol型がMtaFのMT domainによって直ちにメチル化され、beta-methoxy-acrylateが生成される。
