sno clusterにあるO-methyltransferase候補のうち、pSnogaoriにはsnogYが含まれるが、snogM and snogLは含まれない。
S. albus/pSnogaoriの産物はどれもnogalose部分のC2'にmethoxy基を含むので、SnogYがC2'でのO-methylationを担う。

提唱経路schemeでは、aglyconeに付着されてからメチル化を受けるとされている。

mycE, mycFそれぞれの遺伝子をHis-tagを付けてE. coliで発現させて精製し、各々の機能を調べている。

各酵素はS-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM)-dependent deoxysugar methyltransferaseであることが確認された。MycEの最適反応には、MycFよりも明白にMg(2+)が必要。

MycE → aglycone付着6-deoxyalloseのC2''-OHをmethylation = javose
MycF → aglycone付着javoseのC3''-OHをmethylation = mycinose
