beta酸化のstepに関連した3つの遺伝子のノックアウトは、Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1染色体に導入された。mutantそれぞれはadipate(アジピン酸)で育つことができなかった。mutantsは付加的に飽和させられた直鎖ジカルボン酸を利用するための能力において影響されるので、新しく発見された10kbpDNAはdca(ジカルボン酸dicarboxylic acid)領域と名づけられた。
