hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)によって誘発される、PerR regulonのひとつとして同定。
zosAの発現はH2O2によって誘導され、PerR metalloregulatory proteinによって抑制される。

zosA mutantは、
・Cd, Ni, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn ions耐性には影響なし
・Zn(II) sensitivity増
・cell内Zn濃度減
であることから、ZosAはZn(II) の取り込みを行うことが示されている。

また、ZosAはH2O2, thiol-oxidizing agent diamide耐性にも関与。
細胞内Zn(II)増加がthiolsを酸化から保護するかもしれない。
