chromomycin gene clusterにある4つのglycosyltransferase genes (cmmGI, cmmGII, cmmGIII, and cmmGIV)の不活化mutant作製、産物解析。

cmmGII mutantはposition 8でのdisaccharide鎖を欠いた4環化合物産生。
cmmGI mutantはposition 8でのdisaccharide鎖の2つめの糖を欠いた3環化合物を産生。

よって、生合成中間体prechromomycin A3の8 positionへCmmGII が1つめ、CmmGI が2つめのD-oliosyl基を取り込むことによりdisaccharideの形成を担う。
