Pseudomonas putida KCTC1639から、(R)-specific 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase_PhaJ と、3-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein reductase_FabG をクローニングし、medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoate (mcl-PHA)のための(R)-3-hydroxyalkanoate monomer unitsを過剰補給するために親株で増幅した。

phaJの過剰発現はmcl-PHAを増やすが、fabGの過剰発現では逆に抑制する傾向にあった。これはおそらく、
(R)-3-hydroxyalkanoate monomer units → 3-ketoacyl-CoA
への可逆反応のせいである。
