TylC3は(S)-adenosylmethylthionine(AdoMet)-dependent enzymeで、L-mycaroseの生合成においてmethyl分枝の付着を触媒する。
C-3 methylationは立体配置の反転を進め、いかなるcofactorsの補助も必要としない。
代謝回転速度は1.4±0.1 min-1

この論文を引用しているEryBIII に関する論文によると、axial立体配置でのC-3 OH基を持つD-sugarを基質とするようだ。

そのためEryBVII による5-epimerizationは、3-C-methylateされた基質に起こる。
