rimG自体の機能解析は行われていないが、相同性よりcytochrome P450 monooxygenaseと予想している。

RimG disruptant mutantでは、rimocidin and CE-108のC-14でCOOH基の代わりにCH3基を持つ化合物を産生。
よってRimGは、このC-14での酸化を担う。

mutant産生noncarboxylated tetraenesは、cholesterol-containing membranesに対しての毒性が下がっている。
