urdamycin clusterに含まれるglycosyltransferase候補genes=urdGT1a, urdGT1b, urdGT1cについて、mutant作成、相補実験における蓄積産物解析を行い、各機能割り当てが確定されている。

UrdGT1aは、urdamycin A生合成においてC-12bのhydroxy基にL-rhodinoseを付着するO-glycosyltransferaseである。

C-9にあるtrisaccharideでもL-rhodinoseを付着するglycosyltransferase(UrdGT1c)が作用するが、UrdGT1aはこれを代替しない。
