balhimycinのaglycone骨格となるアミノ酸(Bht, Hpg, Dpg)は、直接的または間接的にshikimate経路に由来する。shikimate経路の律速酵素Dahp synthaseをコードするdahpの追加コピーを発現した株は、グリコペプチド生産性が3倍に改善された。逆にdahpのdeletion mutant株はbalhimycin産生で有意な減少をもたらした。
