NITE (National Institute of Technology and Evaluation, President : TATSUMI Takashi, Head Office : Nishihara, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) carried out a collaborative test with Sony Energy Devices Corporation (SEND) at National LABoratory for advanced energy storage technologies (NLAB) in Osaka’s Bay Area.

1. NITE carried out the “external fire exposure testing for energy storage systems (ESSs)”, which assumed conflagration, with Sony Energy Devices Corporation at NLAB.

2. With SEND’s consent, we will release Collaborative Test Report.

3. NLAB comprises two blocks: the “NLAB Large Chamber” as the world’s largest scale laboratory building utilized for various tests on whole container-size batteries, and the “NLAB Testing Facilities” as laboratories per function capable of newest testing for vibration, drop, charge and discharge, external short-circuit, crushing and other testing on large scale modules and pack-size batteries. Testing and evaluation for safety and performance are carried out on request, on the large-scale battery energy storage systems.
