ORF8*はdTDP-hexose 4-ketoreductaseにとても相同性のある遺伝子産物をコードする。
Fig. 3で提唱されている4'-O-carbamoyl-2'-deoxyrhamnose生合成経路において、C-4のcarbonyl基→hydroxy基の還元反応に当てはめられている。

このurdRは、NDP-D-olivose合成系に関与。
NDP-4-keto-2,6-dideoxy-D-Glc=>NDP-D-olivose
urdR mutantがurdamycin M(D-rhodinose含)蓄積すること、相同性より機能推測している。
