TylX3をdTDP-D-glucoseを4,6-dehydrataseで処理した基質と反応するとmaltol産生。これは予測された不安定なdehydration産物の分解の結果であると示唆される。

TylX3にTylC1, NADPHを加えて反応すると、C-3 OH基がaxialなdTDP-2,6-dideoxy-D-glycero-D-glycero-4-hexuloseを産生。
この産物のC-2のHはequatrial positionであることが重水素の取り込みで確認されたので、C-2の立体配置は保持されており、水素化物がNADPHから不安定中間体のC-3 positionへ移されることがほのめかされる。
