elloramycinのsugar motiety L-rhamnose生合成に必要なrhaA-D genesは、PKSなどが含まれるclusterとは別のclusterに存在する。両subclustersがelloramycin生合成に必要であることは、rhaB不活化とS.lividansでの異種性plasmid発現により確認されている。

rhaB: 4,6-Dehydratase

配列解析から、このORFはL-rhamnose生合成における4,6-dehydrataseとして機能すると提唱されている。また、rhaB geneの挿入不活化でelloramycin非産生、elloramycin aglycone 8-DMTCを蓄積する。
