このfamilyのタンパクはtype I PKSでacetyl starter unitsを取り込むのに使用されることがある。

grhJ mutant KR42は主にcompound9(lenticulone)を蓄積。
よってGrhJはGrhO6と共にspiroketal形成の最終段階を触媒すると示唆された。

lenticuloneの他にC25H16O11のpolyketideがLC-HRMSで観察された。
この化合物はGrhO6 mutantでは検出されず、lenticuloneよりCとOがひとつずつ少ない。
これは仮定上の切断産物7,8-dideoxy-6-oxygroseorhodin Cに一致しうる。
しかしNMRでの完全な特徴づけのためには産生量が少な過ぎて構造確認できていない。
