idmJの欠損株を作成し、indanomycin生産が消失していること、及びidmJを欠損株に相補することによって、indanomycin生産能が回復することを確認している。idmJ自体の機能実験は行っていないが、相同性よりproline adenyltransferaseと予想している模様。
