daunomycin clusterのdau-ORF3の産物に似ている。
しかしその機能はまだ明らかでない。

相補実験と配列解析から、snoFGHはnogalamycinの糖部分の生合成に関連すると示唆される。
また、sno minimal PKSのtranscriptional activator SnoAがこのclusterを発現するために必要。

SpnOはforosamine合成の初期段階でNDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-glucoseの2,3位の脱水反応を行う。

dTDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-D-glucose 2,3-dehydratase_SpnO

dTDP-D-glucose, RfbB(dTDP-D-glucose→dTDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-D-glucose), and either NADH or NADPHと一緒にSpnO and SpnNをインキュベートし、NAD(P)Hの消費量をフォローしてtandem reactionを測定。SpnO or SpnNのどちらかを欠いた場合、消費が見られなかった。
dTDP-3,4-diketo-2,6-dideoxy-D-glucoseは不安定で急速にdTDP and maltol に分解してしまうため、SpnOのみの触媒効率は定量できていない。
