pyr15自体の機能実験は行われていないが、short-chain alcohol dehydrogenase関連の機能を持つと予測している。

同様の機能を持つと予測されているpyr13と共に、このうちの一方はdioxapyrrolomycinとpyrrolomycin G, Hに存在するpyrrole環とbenzene環に結合するC-6 keto groupをalcohol levelまで還元するのに機能し、もう一方はpyrrolomycin Bに存在するalcohol moietyを methylene groupにまで更に還元する機能を持つ可能性を記載している。
