36ORFsが見つかり、そのうち24ORFsを含む26.5 kb領域がおそらくsteffimycin生合成に関連する。

sfrB: Transmembrane efflux protein

sfrA and sfrBはsteffimycin抵抗性に関連する候補。
SfrAはMMPL familyの膜内在性タンパク(pfam03176)に、 SfrBはMFS familyのpermeases(COG0477)に似ている。

S.steffisburgensisは少なくとも50ug/mlのsteffimycinに抵抗性を示す。
Stf2B3(sfrBあり)を発現したS.albusは25ug/ml steffimycinに抵抗性あり。
pEM4KSEH(sfrAあり)を発現したS.albusはsteffimycinへの抵抗性を全く示さない。

この結果は、実際の抵抗性決定因子としてSfrBを指摘する。しかし、S.steffisburgensisで観察されたレベルの抵抗性を与えるためにはSfrB and SfrAの協力が必要なのかもしれない。
