ttmPを不活化すると、TTMの生産が見られないことを確認している。機能としては、typeIII CoA transferase familyに属してgamma-butyrobetaine-CoA とcarnitine間でCoA moietyを転移してcarnityl-CoAとgamma-butyrobetaineを生じるCaiBによく似ていることより、C4' carboxylic acidを含む閉環に関与することが予想されている。
