aziA1-A5はmodular NRPS genesで、推定産物は非定型的なNRPS systemを構成する。

aziA3: NRPS (AL-KR-PCP)

AL=acyl-CoA ligase
AziA3-ALには基質特異性を与えるコードが見つからなかったとの記述あり。

CesA, CesBのN末moduleへの高い配列相同性から、AziA3はalpha-ketoisovaleric acidを活性化してPCP domainへ移し、internal KR domainがketoreductionを起こしてalpha-hydroxyisovaleryl moietyを形成すると推測している。

aziA3欠損株(AL1002)はazinomycin B合成ができなかったことから、azinomycin B生合成に必要であることが確認された。驚いたことに、このmutantでは3-methoxy-5-methyl-naphthoic acidのような中間体も検出されなかった(この点について特に考察はされていない)。
