azi gene clusterの右側の境界は、putative transposaseをコードするorf4と、二次代謝生合成に関与するものに有意な類似性のないhypothetic genes (orf1-3)によって判断された。

Orf1は、新規DNA結合タンパク質としてゲノムDNAに大量に結合し薬物(azinomycin B)攻撃によるリスクを減少させ、新規DNA glycosylaseとしてazinomycin BによるDNA損傷に対し塩基除去修復システムを始動させる、bifunctional proteinである。
