FdmR1はStreptomyces antibiotic regulatory protein (SARP) familyのメンバーに高い類似性を示す。

fdmR1不活化でfredericamycin (FDM)生合成不可、相補で回復。
RT-PCRによる転写解析で、fdm gene cluster 28genesのうちfdmRとfdmT2以外の26genesが、FdmR1のpositive control下にあることが判明。
fdmR1過剰発現でFDM力価は5.6倍に改善。

fdm clusterを異種性に発現した時、Streptomyces albusではFDM産生可能だが、Streptomyces lividansではできない。
しかし、fdmR1を恒常的に発現するとFDM産生をもたらすことができる。そしてputative ketoreductaseをコードするfdmCを、fdmR1と同時に過剰発現することによってさらに拡大される。
