配列解析から、ABC-transporter様遺伝子によってコードされるTbaはexporterであると示唆された。Tbaに似ているものとして、CZA382.30(O52818)が挙げられている。

E. coliで発現、精製されたTbaは、ATPase活性を有する活性型であることが確認された。

tba不活化mutantは生育やグリコペプチド耐性に影響しなかったが、細胞外balhimycin濃度が減少し、細胞内balhimycin濃度は10倍高くなった。
