dTDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-D-glucoseからdTDP-L-epivancosamineを生合成する5つの酵素を、E.coliで発現・精製し、特徴づけしている。

ORF23はdTDP-6-deoxy-4-keto-D-glucoseを基質として、2,6-dideoxy-3,4-diketo-dTDP sugarの分解化合物をもたらした。ORF23とORF25の組み合わせは、C-3アミノ基がequatorialなdTDP-3-amino-2,3,6-trideoxy-D-threo-hexopyranos-4-uloseをもたらした。さらにORF14を加えた組み合わせで補助基質としてSAMを使用すると、C-3メチル基がequatorialなdTDP-3-amino-2,3,6-trideoxy-3-C-methyl-D-erythro-hexopyranos-4-uloseをもたらした。

また、ORF14によるdTDP-3-amino-2,3,6-trideoxy-D-threo-hexopyranos-4-uloseのC-methylationが、1.14ppmでのmethyl peakによって確認された。
