新たにVanS, VanR, VanY, Bbr, Pdh, Tba, Dahpを同定している。

配列解析から名付けている。
このORFがbalhimycin生合成gene clusterの右側の境界であるとされている。
dahpの上流にBbrは結合しなかった。

3-deoxy-D-arabino-heptulosonate 7-phosphate synthase (dahp) と prephenate dehydrogenase (pdh)についての特徴づけ。

balhimycinのaglycone骨格となるアミノ酸(Bht, Hpg, Dpg)は、直接的または間接的にshikimate経路に由来する。shikimate経路の律速酵素Dahp synthaseをコードするdahpの追加コピーを発現した株は、グリコペプチド生産性が3倍に改善された。逆にdahpのdeletion mutant株はbalhimycin産生で有意な減少をもたらした。
