borI はcytochrome P450 monooxygenaseをコードする。
C12-nitrile部分の形成に関与。

borIの不活化でborrelidin非産生、C12でnitrile基→methyl基になった12-desnitrile-12-methyl-borrelidinを蓄積。この産物は、borrelidin starter unit合成不全であるS. parvulus mutant(borE-, borI+, borJ+)においてborrelidinに変換可能。

また、Streptomyces albus J1074においてはborIとborJを共に発現したときに12-desnitrile-12-methyl-borrelidin→borrelidinへの変換が可能で、dehydrogenaseをコードするとされるborKが同時に発現されると、より効率的であった。

Pravastatin(高コレステロール血症薬)は、ML-236B-NaをStreptomyces carbophilusのcytochrome P-450sca (CytP-450sca) monooxygenase systemによって水酸化することによってつくられる(青カビ(Penicillium citrinum)を用いてML-236Bメバスタチンを生産し、これをStreptomyces carbophilusにより水酸化する二段階発酵法)。P-450sca (CytP-450sca) monooxygenase systemの遺伝子をクローニング、性質を調べている。
