borJはaminotransferaseをコードする。
C12-nitrile部分形成に関与。

borJのinsertional inactivationでborrelidin非産生、C12でnitrile基→carboxyl基になった12-desnitrile-12-carboxyl-borrelidinを蓄積。この産物は、borrelidin starter unit合成不全であるS. parvulus mutant(borE-, borI+, borJ+)においてborrelidinに変換できないshunt metabolite。

また、Streptomyces albus J1074においてはborIとborJを共に発現したときに12-desnitrile-12-methyl-borrelidin→borrelidinへの変換が可能で、dehydrogenaseをコードすると信じられているborKが同時に発現されると、より効率的であった。
