dauA-orfF, dauB, dauA-orfEABCDの7ORFを含んだfragmentまたはdauA-orfF+dauB+dauA-orfEのfragmentで、polyketide reductase活性を欠損したS. galilaeus ATCC 31671の抗生物質産生を回復。
また同じfragmentで、S.coelicolor_actIII mutantも相補できている。

daunorubicin (DNR), doxorubicin (DXR)の前駆体であるaklanonic acidを異種性ホストで産生するために必要な最小遺伝子は、dpsG (ACP), dauI (regulatory activator), dpsA (KS alpha), dpsB (KS beta), dpsF (aromatase), dpsE (polyketide reductase), and dauG (putative deoxyaklanonic acid oxygenase)であるということを実証している。

DpsEは、DpsFによる環化に先立って必要なC-9還元を担う、decaketideに特異的なketoreductaseであることが実験で確認されている。

minimal PKS + KR + CYCをjadomycin, daunorubicin, tetracenomycinのgenesで構成し、そのplasmid発現株での産物を解析。KRとして、dpsE, jadE, actIII を使用している。

DpsEはdecaketidesを還元できるが、octaketidesを還元できない。
JadEはdecaketideだけでなく、octaketideも還元できる。

JadD, DpsFの両cyclasesはC-9で還元されたdecaketidesの位置特異的なfirst-ring cyclase/dehydrasesである。
