このORFは、ORF4(aviE)。
S. griseusのdTDP-glucose dehydratase (StrE)と相同性を示す(55% identity)。

aviD, aviEの各欠損株は、avilamycin生合成能が欠損することからavilamycin生合成に必須であった。
aviDとaviEはavilamycinsのcomponentである6-deoxyhexoses(D-olivoseや2-deoxy-D-evalose)生合成の初期段階に関与すると推測している。
