mtmGI,mtmGIIの不活性化株はmithramycinを合成出来なかった。両株の培養上清から検出した化合物の解析より、mtmGI,mtmGIIがtetracyclic mithramycin前駆体のC-12a-OやmithramycinoneのC-2-Oへsugur moietyの異なる数をattachするmithramycin生合成中間体のグリコシル化を行うことを示した。
