chmF 自体の機能実験は行われていないが、TylFとの相同性より3-O-methyltransferaseとして、同じくmethyltransferaseとして機能すると推定しているchmEと共に、5-O-chalcosyl-20-O-(6-deoxyallosyl)-macrolactoneより5-O-chalcosyl-20-O-mycinosyl-macrolactoneを生じると提唱している。

macrocin O-methyltransferase (tylF gene product)と相同性の高い遺伝子をacZ promoteを付けてE. coliで発現させたところ、IPTG誘導下でのみmycinamicin III (MIII) O-methyltransferase (MOMT) activity を確認し、その遺伝子をmycFとしている。

mycinamicin生合成における2つのO-methyltransferase、MycE と MycFの機能を解析している。
mycE, mycFそれぞれの遺伝子をHis-tagを付けてE. coliで発現させて精製し、各々の機能を調べている。

各酵素はS-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM)-dependent deoxysugar methyltransferaseであることが確認された。MycEの最適反応には、MycFよりも明白にMg(2+)が必要。

MycE → aglycone付着6-deoxyalloseのC2''-OHをmethylation = javose
MycF → aglycone付着javoseのC3''-OHをmethylation = mycinose
