の間のアミド結合の形成をATP-dependent reactionで触媒した。
また、ring A and ATPからのacyl adenylateの形成がATP-PP(i) exchange assayによって実証された。
すなわちNovLは、acyl adenylateのようなring Aの活性化と、引き続くacyl基のring Bのamino基への移動の両方を触媒した。
