pyr18自体の機能実験は行われていないが、相同性よりassimilatory nitrate reductase, catalytic subunitと予測している。pyr19と共にnitrateを還元し、その結果供給されるnitriteがnitrated pyrrolomycinの生合成に使われると推測されている。
