varSは3つの異なる方法(monocistronic, bicistronic barB-varS, bicistronic varS-varR)で転写され、barB,varSはBarA-VB systemの転写制御下にあることが示された。

宿主にS.lividansを用いた異種発現でvirginiamycin S-specific resistanceを示した。
virginiamycin Sの排出に関与すると予測。
