鉄欠乏に応答して細胞外の鉄を獲得するために産生されるcatecholic siderophore bacillibactinの生合成についての報告。

異種性発現、精製して得たrecombinant protein DhbEの基質特異性がATP-PPi exchange reactionで確認され、2,3-dihydroxybenzoate(DHB)とsalicylateに高く特異的であることがわかった。

bacillibactinはdhbオペロンでコードされるNRPSによって合成される。そのうちのstand-alone adenylation (A) domain DhbEの結晶構造解析している。

DhbEはbacillibactin合成で最初のステップであるaryl acid 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate (DHB)の活性化を担う。

この構造解析結果とAA配列alignmentsから基質特異性について考察している。
