OxyE, OxyL, OxyG, and OxyS (OtcC)はそれぞれMtmOI, MtmOII, MtmOIII, and MtmOIVにとても似ているので、oxy and mtm gene clustersは進化的に近く関係する。

既にOtcCとしてanhydrotetracycline oxygenaseであると同定されている。

otcC 遺伝子がpolyketide backboneの生合成後、anthracycline structureのC-6位をhydroxyl化するanhydrotetracycline oxygenase をエンコードしていること、また、otcC破壊株では新規のC-17 polyketide が生じることから、otcC遺伝子産物が無いことによりOxytetracycline (OTC)の“minimal”polyketide synthaseに影響を及ぼすことが示されている。
