NITE, commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), completed a study and review of mobility scooter safety. Sample mobility scooters were purchased to confirm their compliance with the requirements of the Japan Industrial Standards, and reproducing tests were conducted under various accident scenarios to explore safety issues to be improved. The summary of the study, deliberated by the "Study Group for Mobility Scooter Safety," is now available.
