中間体 rifamycin SV → 最終産物 rifamycin Bへの変換には、これまでにわかっているCYP450(rif16がコード)の他に、putative transketolase(rif15がコード)も必須であることを遺伝学的に証明。

A. mediterranei U32のrif cluster null mutantにおけるrif15 and rif16の発現で、rifamycin SV → B へ変換可能。しかし、このRif15 and Rif16が媒介する変換はStreptomyce coelicolor or Mycobacterium smegmatisでは検出されなかったので、A. mediterranei内に未同定の必須遺伝子があると示唆される。
