NITE Warns: To avoid Hazards related to Electric Heaters

The National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) today released a NITE Alert on its website urging consumers to avoid hazards caused by electric heaters.

A large number of smoking and ignition accidents involving electric heaters are reported every year. Last winter, a NITE Alert was issued calling for consumers’ attention on this matter. With the approach of winter, the frequency of electric heater use is set to increase. NITE is again urging consumers to take extra care when operating electric heaters. A list of the previously recalled electric heaters
The list of recalled products has been updated so that consumers can verify if their units are subject to recall
Information on malfunctioning electric heaters with remote controls
Some malfunctioning heaters are operated unintentionally with remote controls for other electric appliances. NITE has confirmed the malfunctioning combinations and calls for consumers’ attention.
Safety Alert concerning the use of electric heaters
The improper use of electric heaters or carelessness may pose fire hazards. This is not just limited to recalled products. This Safety Alert provides precautions for the proper use of electric heaters.
